This variety produces large, almost onions that are so easy to grow it would be silly not to try it! Expect very large, and very sweet globes of tasty onions with this one. And this variety holds up better in storage than most. These shallots have reddish-pink bulb scales and a pale, purple-pink flesh. The size of mature bulbs ranges from 1 to 2 in diameter. Note: This should not to be confused with the gray French shallot that produces a prolific amount of tough-skinned, undersized bulbs in the middle and southern U.S. latitudes. The 'French Red' shallot is more widely adapted and has superior flavor, though it does not keep as well as other shallots. Valued in gourmet cooking and fine restaurants. These shallots have white/creamy bulb scales and a pale, eggshell flesh. The size of mature bulbs ranges from 1.5 to 2.75"" in diameter.
