Organic Golden Flax Seed Linum usitatissimum Ama, Annual Flax, Chih Ma, Common Flax, Cultivated Flax, Hu Ma, Kahtan, Keten, Kettan, Kittan, Lin, Linaza, Lino, Linseed, Linseed Flax, Linum usitatissimum Description: The erect, slender, glabrous stem has few branches and bears alternate, sessile, simple, entire, lanceolate to oblong leaves. Each branch has one or two blue or violet-blue, five-petalled flowers. The fruit is an 8- to 10-seeded capsule; the seeds are smooth, flattened, shiny, and light brown. Flax is very high in the Omega s (Omega 3, Omega 6 & Omega 9); fiber; Protein, Plant Lignans (Anticancer agent); vitamins, minerals and amino acids). These Flax Seeds may be used to grow plants that you can then harvest for your personal use. You may snack on them raw, sprout them like Mung and Alfalfa, or use them to produce your own Flax Oils. Flowering Period: From June to August Habitat: Prefers a light well-drained moderately fertile humus-rich soil in a sunny to shaded but sheltered position. Prefers a cool moist climate. Soil: pH from 5.8 to 6.4 Sun: Full sun to almost total shade (Can be grown on counters indoors for sprout production or starting to transplanting.) Water: Minimal water needs, requires support during times of drought and high heart (Stress induced conditions limit production). Propagation: Early seeding of flax generally produces the best results, for flax is seldom damaged by light spring frosts. Plants just emerging are the most tender, but can withstand temperatures down to approximately -3C (27F). Flax does well on types of land suitable for wheat. It grows best on heavy loam soils that retain moisture well. However, one disadvantage of heavy soils is their tendency to crust after heavy rains and interfere with the emergence of the seedlings. Flax should be sown shallow, 2.5 to 4.0 centimeter (1 to 1.5 inches) deep, with a drill that places the seed at a uniform depth in rows 15 to 20 centimeter (6 to 8 inches) apart. Recent research has shown that up to 30 centimeter (12 inches) row spacing in zero tillage is acceptable. Flax is an excellent crop for irrigated crop rotation since it is very resistant to Sclerotinia stem rot which affects canola, sunflower, peas, and beans. The major effect of irrigation on flax is to promote a second or third flush of flowers and to maintain adequate moisture for plant growth until all flowers have developed seeds. Other Uses: Sprouting; Oil Production; Baking, cooking, and other kitchen uses that are unlimited; Roughage for home animals, and seed banking. Discussion: Flax has been cultivated since Prehistoric times. Irish Linen was made from a mix of Flax and Hemp (Cannabis) for at least 1500 years. This superior quality of Linen, Which was known to last for hundreds of years, created a demand for Irish Linen which was manly produced by the Irish People during the Christian-English occupation. At the turn of the 20 century the Irish Linen Industry was a growing industry bring money into the overtaxed areas of Ireland. (It would be wrong to call them poor areas, as like today, the only reason these people were poor was because they were being taxed to the hilt to provide a few individuals (Christian high-arkie Pope, Cardinal, Bishops, etc & English royalty) with a luxurious lifestyle. Today it is the 1000 or so Bankers who hold every government, business, and person in debt. Paying taxes for there gain.) The Christian-English occupiers, ever ready to take money away from these areas, made Hemp (Cannabis) illegal in Ireland there by forcing the Irish Linen industry to use a combination of Flax and Cotton (imported from English Plantations) producing a inferior quality product and the Irish Linen Industry was dead within a few years as there customers could get the same quality of Linen close by. This form of industry killing was incorporated by the oil companies in the 1930 to remove there only competition. Bio-fuels made from Hemp (Cannabis), and their Profits are still being looked after, as 70 years later these Laws are still in place and billions of our tax revenue is being spent to keep them in place. Do not soak the seeds prior to sowing in attempt to encourage germination. Soaking the beans will encourage blight see section on pests and diseases later on. Examine the beans as you sow them, and reject any which are wrinkled, disfigured or have yellow spots on them. *****THIS FAX SEED IS GUARANTEED TO BE TRIFFID FREE***** Each packet contains 100 OR MORE seeds of this species
